As we can see from the chart, most of the Sudanese were Sunni Muslims (about 70%). There is still 20% of the Sudanese who believe in indigenous beliefs. Finally, the 5% left are mainly Christians (mostly in South and Khartoum). The civil war resumed between North and South Sudan was also caused by the religious conflict of the Islams and the traditionalists.

The Sudanese population consists of 52% of Native Blacks (Nilotic or Negroid peoples, of whom the Dinka form the largest portion), 39& of Arabs, and 6% of Beja. In all, there are nearly 600 ethnic groups. Foreigners takes up 2% of the total population and other groups occupy another 1%. |
From 1995 to 2011, Sudan's total expenditure on health as a percentage of GDP had grown from 3.4% to 8.4%. Due to the long civil war, the mortality rate of Sudanese was relatively high, but since the government ceased fire now, the health care organizations started to work as well, people start to get better health cares. However, Sudan still has many diseases such as HIV/AIDS spreading all over the country and the Sudanese still haven't find any way out of it.

The Sudanese rural poppulation had decreased from 89% to 67% from 1960 to 2012 which also indicated the improvement of the life quality in South Sudan.
